    About our abbot The Venerable Jian Zong Second Abbot and President of Ching Kwok Buddhist Temple, Mui Kwok Buddhist Temple, Yuen Kwok Buddhist Temple. Advisor of the Buddhist Advisory Committee for Buddhist Studies at Emmanuel College at the University of Toronto Honorary Advisor of Buddhist Education Foundation of Canada Ven. Jianzong entered his monastic life in 2004. Thereafter, he went to Taiwan and spent the following ten years there, receiving his Buddhist education and monastic training at Yuan Kuang Buddhist College and Huafan University. Ven. Jianzong received his university degree in Buddhist Studies with concentration in Tiantai Studies of Mahayana Buddhism and in the skills in chanting and in giving Dharma talks.  A scholarship recipient during his years of studies at the university, Ven. Jianzong graduated with first-class Honours and stood first in his graduating class. After his graduation, Ven. Jianzong returned to Toronto to continue his Dharma practice at home base. With his Master’s passing in late 2014, Ven. Jianzong has taken up the responsibility and duty of managing the three temples. And of continuing his late Master’s legacy in promoting Buddhist Studies at the University of Toronto. On November 2015, Ven. Jianzong officially became the Second Abbot of Ching Kwok Temple of Toronto, Mui Kwok Temple of Edmonton, and Yuen Kwok Temple of Montreal.

    Our founder Venerable Venerable Dharma Master Wude Founder and First Abbot of Ching Kwok Temple of Toronto, Mui Kwok Temple of Edmonton, and Yuen Kwok Temple of Montreal Executive Committee Member of the World Buddhist Chinese Sangha Congress Biography 1950 - Venerable Wude was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam 1970 - At the age of 20, Ven. Wude received novice ordination under the guidance of Ven. Huiti. He subsequently began learning Chan teaching and practice from Ven. Huili 1972 - Received full Bikkhu ordination in Vietnam 1981 - Due to the aftermath of the Vietnam war, Ven. Wude moved to Canada becoming one of the early Buddhist monks in Canada. 1985 - Founded Tai Bay Monastery of Toronto 1990 - Founded Mui Kwok Buddhist Temple in Edmonton 1994 - Tai Bay Monastery moved to a larger location thus renamed Ching Kwok Buddhist Temple 1996 - Received Linji (Qita Temple branch) School Dharma transmission from Elder Ven. Jingxin, thus becoming the 43rd generation holder of the Linji School lineage. 2001 - To further propagate Buddhism, Ven. Wu along with notable individuals in the Buddhist realm and post-secondary institutions came together to form the Buddhist Education Foundation of Canada serving as the foundation's first president 2009 - Became abbot of Montreal Chinese Buddhist Society (Daci Temple) 2013 - Daci Temple of Montreal moved to a larger location and renamed Yuen Kwok Buddhist Temple 2014 - Ven. May the Buddha’s light shine universally and all are filled with the joy of the Dharma. Venerable Jian Zong lead the Thousand Sangha Dana Offering Service, along with laity from Toronto’s Ching Kwok Temple, Edmonton’s Mui Kwok Temple, Montreal’s Yuen Kwok Temple and Regina’s Bodhicitta Buddhist Association Of Canada, at The Vietnam Buddhist University (Le Minh Xuan Campus) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The offering service was held on Sunday February 23 with over 1100 Sangha members receiving dana offering. May this event promote the Buddhist ideals of compassion and kindness around the world and promote the Buddhist cultural exchange internationally.
